Deer Creek owns 9-game shutout streak
The
Deer Creek girls soccer team has entered rarified air this season.
Not only have the Antlers won nine of their matches this season, they also
haven’t allowed a goal all season.
“We challenged ourselves to get a shutout each game,” first-year coach Amel
Muhamed-agic said. “So far, we’ve met that challenge.”
The Antlers are also looking for their first Class 5A state championship
since 1995.
They have gotten to the state semifinals in each of the last six years, but
have lost those matches to Tulsa’s Bishop Kelley.
The Antlers have all but clinched their district championship, and will
likely host the first two rounds of the playoffs.
Deer Creek has just two seniors in its lineup, Amy Grow and Melissa McLaws.
Despite their young lineup, the Antlers have a lot of game experience. Ten
of their 11 starters play on club teams, either in the Northwest OKC Soccer
Club or Edmond Soccer Club.
“We have a lot of kids who play on club teams,” Muhamedagic said. “We’ve had
a good mix of the younger and older players.”
In its last match, Deer Creek routed El Reno 10-0.
