Badgers sign 11 for 2009

The University of Wisconsin women’s soccer head coach Paula Wilkins announced the signing of 11 student-athletes that will join the Badgers in the fall of 2009.

Forward Nicole Aiello, midfielders Lindsay Hamann, Lindsey Johnson, Alissa Scalzo, Monica Lam-Feist, Alev and Derya Kelter, defenders Lacey Warner, Alyssa Vogel, Meghan Hermann, and goalkeeper Olivia Hoff make up the recruiting class of 2009.

“I am excited about our recruiting class for 2009. I believe we have made another step forward with our program in getting quality soccer players to come to Wisconsin,” Wilkins said. “This recruiting class has a great combination of technical ability, tactical sense, athleticism, and competitiveness to make it one of the best classes in recent years at Wisconsin. I am happy to keep some of the best players, with great club team experience in the Midwest at Wisconsin.”

The 11 new recruits hail from four different states and two Canadian provinces—Alaska, Illinois, Texas, Wisconsin and British Columbia and Ontario in Canada. Wisconsin natives Hamann, Johnson, Hoff and Vogel each played on the FC Milwaukee Club team that won six consecutive State Championships. Alev Kelter was part of the U.S. women's national team Under-20 and Under-18 combined training camp Jan. 25-Feb. 1 in Chula Vista, Calif. where she was tabbed as one of the top 11 players at the camp by the Web site. more

Muskego-New Berlin girls soccer wrap-up

Paula Bohl and Cari Westover each tallied two goals as Muskego blanked Oak Creek, 4-0, May 5 to improve to 6-0 in the Southeast Conference.
Bohl started the scoring at the 10-minute mark, then Westover took a pass from Jessie Wieland for the second goal at 31 minutes.
"We struggled getting into a flow," coach Eric Hess said. "I basically subbed out my entire team and put in my reserves with 10 minutes left in the half. It took 45 seconds for them to score a goal. They played faster and with more pace and energy."
Westover tallied again early in the second half, then the starters returned and Bohl scored, assisted by Rachel Pradarelli.
Goaltender Andrea Beczkiewicz made three saves for the Warriors, who outshot the Knights, 25-3. more

New Berlin West

The Vikings dropped a key Woodland Conference game to Shorewood, 1-0, May 7.

"Play went both ways," coach Mike Dillett said, "although Shorewood had a slight advantage in the run of play. We had to get used to the turf field. We made our adjustments correctly but they scored in the 65th minute."

Goaltender Sarah Keaton kept West in the game with eight saves.

West also lost a 1-0 decision to the Brookfield East reserve team May 5.

The Vikings (3-2 in the Woodland Conference and 4-6 overall entering this week) will host New Berlin Eisenhower (2-0-1 in the conference with a victory over Shorewood) at 4:30 p.m. today, May 14.

They will then welcome powerful Catholic Memorial on Saturday, May 16.
